Fler was a small business run by two Jewish migrants, Lowen and Rodeck who escaped Nazi Europe and arrived in Australia in 1940.
The furniture Fler began to manufacture leaned towards the modern styles that begun to influence Australian homes and decor after the Second World War.
Their furniture stood alongside those of other prominent Australian designers, like husband and wife team Grant and Mary Featherston.
